Kolloma is a social-musical enterprise that aims to strengthen communities and social networks. Through shared creative experiences, Koloolam brings people from all walks of life, cultures, religions, and countries together to create together. The project aims to show how the power of musical harmony can be harnessed and used to create human harmony. Hundreds of thousands of people have already joined the movement to create social change through musical collaboration.
Cololam specializes in bringing masses of people together, whether in person or at digital events, for artistic and unique collaborative creation. For a few hours, participants step out of their comfort zone, awaken all their senses, and set their voices free. We teach them to listen – to themselves and to each other – and then together create a meaningful work.
Each of Kololam’s events is dedicated to highlighting a burning social message such as: inclusion, coexistence, or female empowerment. The message is woven into all stages of the process, starting with the selection of the song, the nature of the musical arrangement, learning the sounds of the arrangement, and finally a joint performance with the chosen song. Kollolm has a unique experience that allows everyone, regardless of previous musical experience, to contribute their voice to an inspiring production. We embrace every voice, find harmony in diversity, and demonstrate the power and possibilities of a community united under a common purpose.
Academic research conducted by Dr. Weiss of David Yellin College in Jerusalem found that participants in Kololam events find special meaning in the events, because they feel a connection to each other and the creation of something greater and more beautiful than they could create as individuals. The result is a sense of belonging for participants to a community in which they are seen and heard.
Over 350,000 people have already taken part in more than 300 Kololam events around the world. Clips of the events have garnered more than 140 million views and have found their way to global leaders, social influencers, and celebrities from around the world. Inspired by Cololam’s music video from a breast cancer awareness event, where we sang the song “Let’s get loud,” Jennifer Lopez and Shakira incorporated our arrangement into their performance at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.
Cololam has been recognized many times for her contributions and positive impact on society. In 2018, Asia Society awarded Kololam the prestigious Game Changer Award in recognition of Kololam’s work in building bridges through song, and that same year the project also won the Israel Innovation Award. In 2019, UNESCO and the European Broadcasting Union chose to broadcast Cololam’s rendition of the song “One Day” on approximately 2,000 global stations in honor of World Radio Day, as a symbol of tolerance.
Kololam comes to prove that every person has the power and ability to create positive change. Mass poetry events are just the beginning. We are currently working on expanding our impact through collaborative works in different artistic styles that will allow us to reach more people and more places around the world. Kololam strives to be a global engine for good, to inspire people and, each time, through a different song, to add their voice to the movement.
We believe that people have the ability to change the reality in which they live and that communities have the power to empower the individual by giving space to the unique voice of each person. These are the ideals we hope to promote among our audience. These are the core values of Kololam.
